KFUPM Website Revitalisation

KFUPM Website Revitalisation *

During my internship at KFUPM, I worked on a website redesign, where I designed a prototype. I collaborated with the design team during the audit and research phases to ensure the final design aligned with user needs and the university’s branding. Some of the design ideas I proposed were implemented in the current website, helping to improve the overall user experience.

Pain Points

Pain Points *

Poor Navigation Bar

The navigation bar only acts as anchor links with no drop down menu. All the information is hidden and hard to find in the website.

Weak CTA

The only “Apply Now” button is small and easy to scroll past.

Small Hero Photo

The hero photo’s quality is poor and it was too small to capture someone’s attention.

Poor Readability

The small text and cluttered layout of information didn’t help lead the eye in a certain flow and was difficult to decipher.

To improve the user experience, I updated the hero section with a new, visually engaging image I edited and emphasized the “Apply Now” call-to-action for better visibility and conversion. I also focused on creating a clean, uncluttered UI that stays consistent throughout the site for a more seamless browsing experience.

In addition to the navigation bar, I included a page encompassing most of the information that was cluttering home page’s UI. I did this by creating different varients and including a shorter version of the information in each slide.

To improve readability I kept the design clean and simple and the text short and large enough to read while sticking to the design system in place.

Process

Before beginning the project the design and IT team were added to a shared Figma file where our work time -line was established.

Both teams were communicating constantly back and forth throughout each step.

My contribution to the redesign was helping my mentors while brainstorming ideas, wireframing pages, and creating a prototype.

Wireframing

I was tasked with wireframing multiple pages, using insights from the design audit and competitor analysis to guide the design decisions. I worked closely with the design team to ensure the wireframes met both user needs and the university’s branding.
